My name is Boqun Wang (the pronunciation is Boh Ch'ün Wahng).
I am a macroeconomist with experience at Bank of America, IMF, Alibaba, Guolian Securities and GF Securities, focusing on China macro, global macro, rates, FX, regional economy and policy research. I received my Ph.D. in Economics from Johns Hopkins University, M.Phil. from CUHK and B.A. from Peking University.

This is the first paper to study the role played by economic transition in reducing output volatility using China’s data.
Our model implications shed light on the history of decentralization reforms in the People’s Republic of China. A strict adherence to the central renders decentralization welfare-reducing, causing low output and high volatility.
